Baccarat Betting Strategies

Baccarat is a card game played by two hands, the "player" and the "banker," in casinos all over the world. Each baccarat coup (round of play) has three possible outcomes: "player" (the player with the higher score), "banker," and "tie". The game has three popular variations. Punto banco (or "North American baccarat"), baccarat chemin de fer (or "chemmy"), and baccarat banque (or à deux tableaux) are some examples.

Each player's moves in punto banco are dictated by the cards dealt to them. In baccarat chemin de fer and baccarat banque, both players can make decisions. The winning odds favor the bank, with a house edge (which is present in any casino game to help ensure the casino makes money) of no less than around 1%.

This isn't a baccarat history lesson. Instead, we'll talk about some of the most important ways that players will bet and play during the game.

Card Counting

Card counting is a popular playing strategy that originated at blackjack tables. The basic concept has been so popularized by movies, books, and TV shows that almost everyone is familiar with it. You might think that this is a system for mathematically gifted people. Actually, the opposite is true.

This is true for blackjack, but can you count cards in baccarat and pretty much every other poker game out there? Baccarat can be played using card counting because it follows the same gameplay structure as blackjack, where two hands are drawn and the highest one wins.

In order to get the most out of your card counting experience, a few prerequisites must be met.

First and foremost, you must be playing at a table with a 6 or 8 deck shoe. No more, no less. The shoe must be new when you begin counting, or the entire system will fail.

The shoe is a device that is used at nearly every poker table. It holds the cards that the dealer deals out. In online live baccarat, the shoe changes roughly every 30 minutes, so if you join before this happens, just be patient and wait a few minutes. The worst that could happen is that you have to wait 30 minutes to try it out.

Ideally, you should play at a table where the shoe is worn the entire time. This is more common in land-based casinos, but you can still use this strategy online. Once you've met all three, or at least the first two, of these requirements, you'll be ready to learn the ins and outs of baccarat card counting.

Martingale

1 of the oldest betting systems, the Martingale is a negative progression system used in chance-based games like roulette, baccarat, and craps.

It basically assumes that after a win, players should bet the same amount again and double their bet after a loss.

For example, if you bet $5 and win, you bet $5 again. However, if you lose, you must wager $10. You lose again, and this time you bet $20. The idea is that when you win, and you will win every time, you will be up $5 regardless of your previous losses.

Here's another illustration to help you understand. You bet $5 and won after four losses.

You won $160, but you've already lost $155 from previous bets (the initial $5 + $10 + $20 + $40 + $80 from your previous winning bet).

In theory, it appears that you can never lose and will always win your initial bet. In reality, things are not as they appear. Consider betting $5 and losing thirteen times consecutively.

If you have that kind of money, your next bet would have to be $40,960.

If you lose again, which is unfortunately more likely than many new and ambitious players believe, you'll have to bet $81,920, which is more than most houses allow.

This brings me to my main point: if you play Martingale, you will eventually run out of money or the casino betting limits will cut your strategy short, even if you are willing to place insanely high bets.

Martingale systems typically only work for short or quick gambling sessions with fewer betting rounds.

Even though baccarat seems like a good way to test the system because it has a low house edge, you shouldn't try it when you're playing online.

Online rounds move much faster than in a physical casino, and the chances of winning using Martingale are higher if you spend less time playing.

If you want to try the Martingale betting method, the maximum recommended playing time is one hour. You could play 120 rounds of Baccarat before reaching that hour of playing time.

Paroli

Paroli is a tried-and-true positive-betting system that aims to increase your chances of profit growth by capitalizing on winning streaks.

The Paroli Betting System has been in use for over a century, first at one of the casinos in the gambling mecca of Monte Carlo. It has since become one of the world's most popular betting strategies.

In fact, the betting system is sometimes referred to as the "Reverse Martingale system."

Paroli appears to combine elements of the Martingale and Anti-Martingale systems into a single system. When it comes down to it, its two main goals are to consistently generate small wins while avoiding the risk of large losses.

Paroli is perceived as a less risky betting system by its players. This is due to the fact that large bets are made with casino money rather than a sacrificial bet from the player's own personal bankroll.

In contrast, Martingale System followers use their own money to place large bets after losses.

Labouchere

If you want a simple and/or progressive betting system, the Labouchere is not for you.

It is one of the more complex systems and requires some getting used to. If you're new to baccarat, I wouldn't recommend it. Even though this system is hard to put into practice, it has the potential to be one of the best and most popular betting systems.

The main idea is that you should be able to recover your losses from losing bets with fewer wins. The Labouchere system is similar to the Martingale system, which is another negative progression system, but it doesn't try to make up for all previous losses with a single win.

Instead, it attempts to offset losses with multiple wins. One of the system's advantages is its adaptability. Because the player has the ability to change the initial betting sequence, they can slightly alter their risk and reward levels.

This system, like the others, is extremely popular—there are literally thousands of books on betting systems. Before putting money on the line, you should definitely try it out and do more research. When you use a betting system, you will be more successful than if you just played blind.

Conclusion

These systems, like any other strategy, require practice to master. You might be able to figure them out right away, but things change when your money is on the line and other players are involved. I recommend spending a significant amount of time playing online first, either for free or for money, to get a sense of how the systems work and to practice. Nothing looks worse than going to a physical casino table and trying these systems out, only to lose money and make it obvious what you're doing.
