There are two perspectives on this, making it a challenging question. One approach is that the likelihood that the pot may go multiway and so grow in size increases with the number of players at the table.

But these pots with more than two players may not happen very often because the more people at the table, the tighter you have to play from early positions and against early position raises.

The other way to look at it is that you have to compete for the blinds more when there are fewer players present. Therefore, at a 6-max table as opposed to a 9-handed table, you raise, 3-bet, and 4-bet much more frequently.

The pots will be rather tiny unless there is a cooler situation at your 6-max table, though, if there are a lot of passive players present.

Probability of a Fish

It seems sensible that there will be more recreational poker players at a table if there are more players there. You should instead think about how many recreational players are at your table instead of how many recreational players are at the table as a whole.

For instance, if there is only one recreational player at your table, they will account for 12.5% of your opponents at a 9-handed table, 20% of your opponents at a 6-max table, and 100% of your opponents at a heads-up table.
